Sports and Sports Design (S&SD), the jersey right holders of the Bangladesh Crickets Teams, is trying to invent a new type of trousers for the pacers so that they don’t face any difficulty to shine the ball in absence of the saliva.

For this, the S&SD is mulling to use special fabrics that they are importing from Thailand. But the effort is still in the experimental stage.

Many things in the world have been changed during the period of the lethal COVID-19 which has also touched cricket that forced the International Cricket Council (ICC) to bring some new temporary changes here considering players’ health risks.

For example, the world cricket apex body banned the use of the saliva which was used by the pace bowlers to shine the ball to get necessary swing from it. After the introduction of the temporary ban, the pacers can’t use saliva to shine the ball now.

Like Bangladesh pacers, the fast bowlers around the world put fingers at ICC and urged it to allow them to use alternative substances to shine the ball.

Mahtab Uddin Anwar Ahmed Santu, owner of the S&SD, said the trousers will give comfort to the pace bowlers during their bowling but the effort is still in the experimental stage.

Santu informed they will soon hand over some trousers among the pacers to get their feedback and if they get a positive feedback from them, they will go for further action in the aspects of getting a necessary permission from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

“We have started thinking about such a thing when ICC slapped a temporary ban on the use of saliva to shine the ball after the abrupt emergence of the coronavirus in the planet. We’re trying to do something to shine the ball. As a part of our efforts, we’re trying to produce special trousers for the pace bowlers so that they can shine the ball without using saliva,” Mahtab said.

Mahtab also said he wants to inform details about the special trousers after the conclusion of the experimental stage.

“Still it is in the experimental stage. The fabrics we are importing from Thailand will give much comfort to the players. We’ve meanwhile provided one-two players who gave us positive feedback,” Anwar informed.
