Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief executive officer (CEO) Nizamuddin Chowdhury said that they will not rush into any decision regarding staging the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) in the November-December window.

The entire world has witnessed more or less effects of the COVID-19 on their lives and works. Sports activities all over the world got shattered for months. Though cricket came into view in some countries again, staging an event may cost more than before to avoid the contagion of this virus.

Cricket in Bangladesh suspended on March 26 after which a slew of international series and tournaments at home and abroad got postponed. As of now, players are hoping to get back into cricket through the Dhaka Premier League (DPL), which is the prime earning source for them all.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is also eyeing to stage the franchise-based lucrative Twenty20 tournament of the country-Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). They’re now eyeing to organise the event in the November-December window.

However, BCB CEO said that they are not willing to rush into any sort of decision as the situation needs to be overseen before reaching any conclusion.

“We’re thinking of two domestic events, from which the players earn their living. Initially, we are thinking about the DPL [Dhaka Premier League] and then BPL. Our target is to do both,” Nizamuddin Chowdhury told Cricfrenzy.com.

He also said that many of the patrons who finance the franchise teams are facing business loss. Board has to see if those franchises have a positive sign regarding staging the event or not.

“If we want to stage the BPL, we have to talk to the concerned franchisees first. Need to know what position they are in because in the current context, many business organizations may not be interested. They may not respond as they used to. So it would not be right to rush into any decision without talking to them,” he added.
