Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim has started using his auction money that he got from selling his famous bat to set up sample collection booths in his hometown Bogura.
Mushfiqur’s bat was sold for a whopping Tk 17 lakh to famous Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi foundation.
“The booths are financed by Mushfiqur Rahim and we have started collecting Covid-19 samples from today,” said Samir Hossain Mishu, Bogura sadar Upazila health and family planning officer during the inauguration programme
“Two of the sample collection booths were set up at the sadar Upazila health complex. A separate booth has been set up at the same complex for the safety of the doctors who are treating Covid-19 patients since the outbreak of the dreadful coronavirus pandemic,” Mishu informed.
“From the first moments of the pandemic, Mushfiqur has been helping us. When we were in shortage of PPEs (personal protective equipment), he provided a total of 200 sets of PPEs for doctors and health staff at Bogura,” he added.
A couple of Under-19 cricketers including Towhid Hridoy and Tanzid Hasan Tamim were present during the opening ceremony.
