Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim has stood by the sides of the 200 shopkeepers at his alma mater- Jahangirnagar University (JU).

Mushfiqur is pursuing his studies in parallel despite being very busy with his cricket. He is now doing his M.Phil at Jahangirnagar University. He feels a strong pull towards cricket as well as his favourite campus.

The moment Mushfiqur heard around 200 shopkeepers of his campus are facing difficulties due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he made no delay to stand by them with food assistance. He is giving one month of food relief to the 200 shopkeepers of the campus.

Professor Dr Atiqur Rahman, department of History, gave the piece of information to the 33-year-old right-handed batsman. Mushfiqur told a leading Bengali daily that the shopkeeper of the campus is very close to him. The moment he heard about them he extended a hand to them.

“The current situation in our country is such that now people from all sectors are going through hard times. Since the campus is closed indefinitely, their [shopkeepers] income is also kind of closed.

That’s why we’re trying to help them a little bit. There are many shops, where I occasionally sit and eat. On the Bat-tala of campus, cafeteria, dairy gate, marginal gate, shop below the MH [Mir Mosharraf Hossain] hall — everyone is very close to me,” he said.
