Cumilla Warriors head coach Ottis Gibson believes that bowlers need to play with an aggressive mindset and must realize the importance of creating an opportunity to get a wicket after they are taken for a ride by the opponent batsmen in the shortest format.

Ottis was seen working with a couple of bowlers of Warriors at the BCB academy premises as they prepare to take on Rajshahi Royals in the first game at Sher-e- Bangla National Stadium on Saturday.

Warriors need to pull up their socks as further slip in the group phase after managing only two wins from six matches can only prove costly considering their chances of progressing beyond the group phase and Gibson seemed well aware of Warriors present condition in the points table.

‘’Of course, bowlers need to bowl with aggressive mind-set,’’ Gibson told Cricfrenzy trying to analyze his coaching philosophy in the shortest format.

‘’You are gonna get hit but if you get hit and on the other hand if you create an opportunity to get a wicket.  And you bowl him out. So we are not gonna if everybody trying not to give too many runs because you don’t get a batsman out and then somebody else may get hit. So every bowler must take a wicket,’’ he said.

‘’Bowlers are always under pressure. Yeah mentally, you have to accept that you are gonna get hit for fours and six but then how you come back that is the main thing and more importantly trying to bowl your best balls all the time. If the batsmen hitting your best ball, sometimes you don’t do anything wrong and you get hit. That happens. Batsmen nowadays, the way they play, you can bowl a really good bowl and flick it over the head. Batsmen are scoring all around the ground,’’ he said.

‘’Bowlers just need to be brave. You have to be brave and you have to keep thinking to get them out. You know you are gonna get hit, they are gonna score runs but you still have to try and keep thinking about taking wickets. I think it is just accepted that batsmen will score runs and then make a comeback and being positive how you come back. And not losing confidence after one ball. Because the batsmen can hit you for six say four sixes and get out. So if you get 1 for 24, and it is not too bad. If you get a wicket and concede ten in every over, you get 4 for 40. Just take the wicket, it slows down the scoring. You need to take wickets. And I encourage them to keep thinking about getting wickets,’’ he added.
