India Women's team cricketer Shafali Varma scored the fastest double century in Tests against South Africa at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday.
Shafali scored 205 off 197 balls in the one-off Test against the Proteas Women. She also became the second Indian woman to score a double hundred in the Test format after Mithali Raj in August 2002 against England in Taunton.
India won the toss and chose to bat first against the tourists. Smriti Mandaha also registered 149 runs and set a record-breaking opening partnership of 292 runs with Shafali.
The 20-year-old achieved the fastest Test double century in the red-ball format, taking 194 balls to reach the milestone.
Shafali's innings consisted of 23 boundaries and 8 sixes before she was runout due to poor running between the wickets in the 75th over.
