Left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed showcased a remarkable performance, claiming figures of 5-22, while opener Imrul Kayes complemented him with a brisk 92 not out off just 71 balls, guiding Mohammedan Sporting Club to a convincing five-wicket victory over Brothers Union in their final match of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) group phase at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium today.
Securing their eighth win of the season, Mohammedan climbed to the third position in the points table, consolidating their position in the league.
Opting to bat first, Brothers Union struggled against Nasum's spin and were bundled out for a mere 135 runs in 34.3 overs. Offspinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz provided valuable support, claiming 3-28 to further dent Brothers Union's batting lineup.
Mahmudul Hasan and Rahatul Ferdous were the top scorers for Brothers Union, both contributing identical scores of 45 runs. Zakirul Ahmed Gem chipped in with 25 runs, but no other batter managed to reach double figures.
Facing a modest target, Mohammedan experienced a minor batting collapse, but Imrul Kayes's resilient innings steered them to victory. Kayes's unbeaten knock, studded with 12 fours and three sixes, proved to be the cornerstone of Mohammedan's chase as they reached the target in just 23.2 overs, finishing at 140-5.
Apart from Kayes, only Rubel Mea managed to make a notable contribution with 15 runs, highlighting the dominance of Kayes's innings in Mohammedan's successful run chase.
