Mohammedan Sporting Club suffered a big defeat against Abahani Limited in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) match on Tuesday as Abahani clinched a fantastic victory by 8 wickets. Naim Sheikh and Jakir Ali Anik displayed remarkable batting performances for Abahani.
Winning the toss, Mosaddek Hossain Saikat sent to bat first. However, Mohammedan couldn't start their batting innings well. Even in this match, captain Imrul Kayes (2) failed to score big. Roni Talukdar couldn't add more than 10 runs in 15 balls and Rubel Mia also returned quickly.
Mahidul Islam Ankon, who scored fifty in consecutive five innings, couldn't play a big innings today.
Mohammedan primarily relied on Mahmudullah Riyad, who led the total of 190 runs. Riyad played a responsible innings, scoring 54 runs off 83 balls.
Ariful Haque scored 33 runs off 54 balls. Additionally, Abu Haydar Roni contributed 22 runs off 15 balls with one boundary and two sixes.
For Abahani Limited, Tanzim Hasan Sakib took 3 wickets conceding 31 runs in 10 overs. Taskin Ahmed also took 2 wickets but conceded 58 runs in 9 overs.
In reply, Abahani's openers Anamul Haque Bijoy and Naim Sheikh, started the innings well but Bijoy returned disappointed without playing a big innings. He scored 12 runs off 20 balls.
Despite Bijoy's dismissal, Naim continued his steady batting. The left-handed opener completed his half-century off 52 balls. After scoring a fifty, Naim attempted aggressive shots. Before being caught by Nasum Ahmed, he scored 63 runs off 62 balls with 5 boundaries and 3 sixes.
Jakir Ali also played an outstanding innings recently. He completed a fifty off 62 balls. He played the Mohammedan bowlers quite comfortably.
He played an unbeaten innings of 78 runs off 90 balls with 4 boundaries and 6 sixes. Afif Hossain scored 39 runs off 38 balls with 2 boundaries and 3 sixes to help Abahani clinch a big victory.
