Mohammedan Sporting Club initiated their Dhaka Premier League (DPL) campaign on a high note, securing a commanding victory over City Club by 43 runs at BKSP-4 ground today.
Batting first, Mohammedan amassed a total of 240 runs before being bowled out in 49.3 overs. Opener Rony Talukder showcased a stellar performance, notching up the highest score of 71 off 108 deliveries, laced with four boundaries and an equal number of sixes.
Mahidul Islam Ankan contributed a valuable 67 runs to the total. Mehedi Hasan proved to be the pick of the bowlers for City Club, claiming four wickets for 35 runs.
In response, City Club faltered and were bundled out for 197 runs in 46.2 overs, succumbing to defeat in their inaugural match of the season.
Rafsan Al Mahmud was the top-scorer for the side with 56 runs. Pacder Musfik Hasan wreaked havoc on City Club's batting lineup, finishing with impressive figures of 4-43.
Elsewhere, Legends of Rupganj displayed a dominant performance as they defeated Brothers Union by six wickets at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
Opting to bat first, Brothers Union managed to post a total of 202 runs in 47.2 overs, with Mahmudul Hasan top-scoring with 42 runs. Al-Amin Hossain and Shohidul Islam starred with the ball for Rupganj, claiming three wickets each.
In their chase, Rupganj showcased a composed batting display with Shadman Islam contributing 67 runs and Tawfiq Khan adding 66, guiding their team to victory with a total of 204-4 in 36 overs.
Meanwhile, Gazi Group Cricketers clinched a hard-fought victory against Rupganj Tigers Cricket Club by three wickets at BKSP-3 ground.
Rupganj Tigers posted a competitive total of 258-7 after being put into bat first.
However, Gazi Group Cricketers chased down the target, reaching 260-7 in 48.5 overs, courtesy of Al-Amin Junior's crucial knock of 59 runs.
