Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club has begun their Dhaka Premier League with a commanding victory as in the opening day they defeated Gazi Tank Cricketers Academy by six wickets.
Winning the toss at the BKSP ground in Savar, Sheikh Jamal's captain Nurul Hasan Sohan decided to field first. Gazi Tank's start was formidable as they scored 76 runs in the opening partnership, led by Ashikur Rahman and Iftakhar Hossain.
Breaking the partnership, Tipu Sultan brought Sheikh Jamal back into the game. Then, Gazi Tank's batting lineup collapsed like a house of cards, losing wickets at regular intervals.
They managed to score 167 runs, with Ashikur remaining unbeaten with 89 runs off 133 balls, including 4 fours and 3 sixes. In the history of the Dhaka Premier League, it was the first time an opener remained unbeaten from start to finish.
For Sheikh Jamal, Tipu took four wickets at the cost of 30 runs. Ripon Mondol took two, while Shafiqul Islam, Arif Ahmed, and Saif Hasan took one wicket each.
Starting the chase, Sheikh Jamal faced an initial setback, losing two wickets for just 26 runs.
However, Saif Hasan added 65 runs to the scoreboard with Fazle Rabbi, before both fell victim to Maruf Mridha’s bowling, with Saif scoring 45 and Rabbi getting out for 31 runs.
Despite losing two quick wickets, Sheikh Jamal maintained a steady pace. Captain Sohan and Yashir Ali's unbroken partnership of 76 runs ensured victory for them. Sohan scored 31 off 39 balls, while Yashir scored an unbeaten 44 off 32 balls, including 3 fours and 2 sixes.
In the next match, on March 14, Sheikh Jamal will face Shinepukur Cricket Club.
