India head coach Gautam Gambhir stated that India will show respect to every opponent, asserting that the home team will not take Bangladesh lightly in the upcoming two-match Test series.
Bangladesh are coming off a memorable 2-0 series victory in Pakistan, a team they had never beaten before in a Test match.
The task will be tougher against India as they have never lost a home Test series since 2012, winning 11 of the 13 previous encounters against Bangladesh with two draws.
"I have been big believer that we don’t fear anyone but we respect everyone. It is the same with Bangladesh. We don’t look at the opposition and we play the game we know," Gambhir said while addressing a press conference in Chennai on the eve of the first Test.
The coach congratulated Bangladesh on their historic Test series win in Pakistan but cautioned that India will be fully focused and eager from the very first ball of the opening Test.
"I congratulate them (Bangladesh) for what they did in Pakistan. But this is a new series, and they are a quality side. We want to play good cricket. Yes, they have experience in Shakib (Al Hasan), Mushfiqur (Rahim) and Mehidy (Miraz) but we want to be switched on from ball one," he added.
The first Test begins on September 19 in Chennai followed by the second match will be held on September 27.
