Bangladesh seal historic Test win over West Indies
Taijul Islam was Bangladesh's wrecker-in-chief in the fourth innings
On Tuesday at Sabina Park in Kingston, the Tigers dismissed the hosts for just 185 in their second innings, well short of the 287-run target.
Bangladesh had earlier posted 268 in their second innings, building on Zakir’s crucial knock. Taijul, the experienced left-arm spinner, was the star with the ball, taking 5 for 50 in the second innings, his 15th five-wicket haul in Test cricket. Across the match, he claimed 6 wickets for 74 runs.
This victory marked Bangladesh’s first Test win on Caribbean soil since their famous 2-0 series whitewash in 2009, although that West Indies side had been without its top stars. This time, the Tigers triumphed against a full-strength Windies team, ending a 15-year drought and drawing the series.
Jaker’s composed batting helped Bangladesh recover from early setbacks and post a challenging target for the hosts. In the fourth innings, Taijul’s spin baffled the Caribbean batters, supported by disciplined performances from the rest of the bowling unit.
Bangladesh’s win in Kingston is a testament to their growing resilience in Test cricket, especially in away conditions.
