However, the session did not begin as planned. An hour later, the franchise issued a press release stating that the day’s practice had been canceled to provide players with rest.
Sources reveal that the real reason behind the boycott is the unpaid salaries. Players were reportedly issued checks covering 25% of their dues, but these checks bounced. Meanwhile, coaches are said to have received 25% of their payments.
According to BPL regulations, players are to be paid 25% of their salaries before the tournament begins. However, citing financial difficulties, several franchises failed to make the initial payments. Additionally, not all teams have deposited the required financial guarantees with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
BCB President Faruque Ahmed had assured the media during the Dhaka phase that the payment issues would be resolved soon, emphasizing that the board was actively addressing the matter.
Speaking at a post-match press conference, a Rajshahi player expressed hope based on the BCB president’s assurances and stated that the team had given some time for the payments to be made.
However, the issue remains unresolved, leaving the players frustrated as the tournament progresses.
