Bangladesh pacer Taskin Ahmed reflected upon his memories of missing out on the World Cup selection during the 2019 ODI World Cup due to an injury.

Taskin’s spot in the T20 World Cup was blurred due to a muscle injury that he suffered during the recent T20 series against Zimbabwe. The team management had to delay the announcement of the World Cup squad for two days due to his availability.

Later, the medical team declared him fit, however, he might have to take about three weeks to recover from the injury. The right-arm pacer not only cemented his spot in the team but he was also assigned as the vice-captain for the upcoming tournament.

Taskin expressed gratitude and stated that it was a great honour for him to lead the team as the vice-captain and he vowed to repay the national team.

“When the squad announcement was delayed, it brought back memories of the 2019 World Cup, when I left the Mirpur Stadium feeling disappointed after missing the tournament. This time, my team waited two days before announcing the squad for the 2024 World Cup. As a player, this is a great honour, and I will strive to make the most of this opportunity and give my all to the team,” Taskin told BCB in the Red Green Show.

“When I returned to the team (following the injury in 2019), since then I have valued this place a lot. When I was away for a year and a half, I realized that the peace of playing for the Bangladesh team is invaluable,” he added.

Taskin played four T20I matches, taking eight wickets and also became the player of the series.
