Mohammad Salahuddin, one of the leading coaches of Bangladesh has said that he wants to be the head of Tigers after the retirement of Shakib al Hasan’s generation.

Salahuddin is known to be a mentor of some of the leading cricketers like Shakib, Tamim Iqbal, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mominul Haque largely because of his association with the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan (BKSP). He is the mentor of them when these cricketers enrolled in the lone sports institute of the country.

However, the seasoned coach said that he is not ready to take up the job yet as he feels his association with the senior crops of cricketers are more than just in coaching capacity.

“Of course, everyone dreams to be a national head coach and it is not that I don’t see it like everyone sees it,” said Mohammad Salahuddin, who has two coveted Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) trophies under his belt.

“Everyone has a desire but I think it’s very hard to think about it for the next few years especially for me,” Salahuddin told the media.

“It’ll be good for me to not be a national team coach as long as Tamim, Shakib, Mushfiqur plays because I’ve a close relationship with them so if I become the head coach, there might be so much gossiping. We’ve a very close relationship, so I don’t think being the head coach from here would be a good thing for me or the team,” he added.

He billed coaching for the national team as a big deal along with an honour also, stating that the relation he builds up with these players with whom my coaching is not going with that.

“When they retire, I then think of becoming a coach for the national team. And then there will be no problem for him to be coach for the national side. It’s a big deal, it's not like I wanted and got it. It’s a great honour to be the coach of the national team. That sense of personality should be within me and now my relationship with Shakib-Tamim does not go with the role of coach,” Salahuddin said.

“May be possible to coach the next generation,” he said.

“There is so much more to learn for us and for me in coaching. Then maybe I will think whether this role can be played or not by me. But there is a will, who does not have that,” he added.
