Australian duo David Warner and Steven Smith came at the receiving end of the controversial technological system and umpiring in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League.

BCB opted to use LED stumps and Decision Review System in the ongoing edition of BPL, country’s lone franchise-based tournament, in order to make it more colourful.

With this decision, BPL became the third domestic T20 tournament after Indian Premier League (IPL) and Pakistan Super League (PSL) to adopt the technology that helps reduce the umpiring howlers.

However, despite using these technologies it hardly prevented them from ending up getting hooked into controversy as the available system was not enough to cover everything.

The dismissal of both Smith and Warner issues raised quite a few eyebrows whether the available technological support was enough to run a show in BPL.

David warner was the first to victimize by the wrong decision after he was given run out dismissal. Warner made just 13 ball-14 before he was adjudged run out by the decision of third umpire. He and Towhid Ridoy was in a mix-up, ending stranded at one end.

However the mishap came from the third umpire, when on-field umpires asked for a review to the decision in order to see which batsman was actually out. Warner turned back and waited, annoyed at the fact that Towhid did not cut him any slack even as he was the captain and the senior player on the team.

The review showed that Warner had crossed Towhid when the bails were taken off at the other end. Towhid had not placed his bat when Warner made it to the striker’s end.

“The guys said it wasn’t [the right decision]. I didn’t see what happened. But apparently I was in. If you are standing behind the camera and you miss a decision like that, I don’t know. I can’t speak on their behalf of the one who makes the decision. If I wasn’t out, I wasn’t out. I have to accept the decision,” Warner said after the match.

Recently in Bangladesh’s T20 series against West Indies, some of the decisions from local umpires were met with lot of criticism with Tanvir Ahmed’s two ‘no-ball’ call against fast bowler Oshane Thomas were particularly the grave mistakes, which forced Carlos Brathwaite protesting the decision vehemently.

Even if Warner out can be excused there was no way the dismissal of Smith can be validated as it clearly exposed the available system hardly adds any value without having a snicko meter.

Smith was caught by Liton Das off Al Amin Hossain on a good length and swung away a touch outside off, Smith tried to steer it off the face and it seemed to have whizzed past the outside edge.

There was some sound as the ball passed the bat, but we didn't see any technical evidence of the nick there and Victorians coach Mohammad Salahuddin said that they are convinced that the available facility was not good enough.

‘’I don’t think the available technologies is helping us a lot,’’ said Salahuddin.

Doubts can be removed in case of leg before but other than that there is always doubts,’’ he said.

“Before the start of the tournament we were told that because it will cost a lot so there will be no snicko or ultra edge. Perhaps that is the reason it was not provided to us,’’ he said.

‘’But we cannot say anything about it as we were informed before,’’ he added.

BCB officials said that they are expected to bring the required technology soon.

Cricfrenzy learnt that BCB decided not to go for snicko or ultra edge as the package would have cost them $10000 while the available package cost them $5000.
