Australian suspended opener David Warner said that familiarity breeds confidence for him as he is eyeing to make his maiden appearance in the upcoming Bangladesh Premier League scheduled to begin on January 5.

Warner, who is currently serving a ban for the ball tampering scandal, was roped in by Sylhet Sixers in the upcoming BPL and was also handed over with the responsibility of leading the team in the competition.

‘’ I think having played in here Dhaka and Chittagong before and I know how the wickets will be like. For me it’s going to be in rhythm and routine and making sure I am going to lead from the front on top so that guys hopefully not coming in [laugh],’’ Warner told reporters during the introduction ceremony at a city hotel on Thursday.

‘‘I am extremely grateful for leading this side. For me, it’s making sure we as a whole, not as a captain, as a support staff and management can get the best out of the player,’’ he said.

‘’We will have to establish the best XI when we will be out of the park and making sure that we will do the right things at the training before we went out to the park. So from where I stand, it’s leading from the front and making sure I am doing my job right which is scoring runs and leading the guys on the park,’’ he added.

Warner added that with some top players representing respective franchises in the competition it would be foolish to expect for anyone to believe that it will be a cake walk in BPL.

‘’If you look at the lists of some of the other teams, they [fans] are not here to see just me. I am very excited to be here and to be part of it. I had an opportunity to play some good cricket with great competition, some great experienced players and some young players which one-day can put on Bangladesh national colors and achieve their dreams],’’ said Warner.

‘’I was able to do that for my country and having played in the IPL, I have seen lots of young Indians are coming through for their country. I think it’s same important about BPL,’’ he said.

Warner added that these franchise based tournament will be a good platform for taking preparation for the World Cup.

‘’Amongst the international schedule it’s quite challenging with how certain players can be available for all top tournaments around the world. At the moment, BPL is starting against BBL for example at home.  After that you got PSL and after you have IPL,’’ said Warner.

‘’When you have tournaments like this before running into the World Cup, it’s very good. But internationally lot of players aren’t available. But I have spoken to lot of players and they said this is definitely out there with the best,’’ he said .

‘’I think every opportunity that every international player gets playing in such tournament, I think it grows strength to strength playing in these tournaments. So I have played with West Indies players they have played all the tournaments. But the other world class players and the information is to get from them for all the franchise cricket as well,’’ he added.
