While it was always on the cards that Mehidy Hasan Miraj at some point of his career will lead any senior side, it finally was materialised as Rajshahi Kings yesterday announced him as the captain of their side.

The former Under-19 captain who led the youth side, achieving third place in 2016 Under-19 World Cup in Bangladesh, the Bangladesh youth’s best result in this tournament, was quite happy with how the things unfolded.

He sought help from the senior cricketers of his team and coach Lance Klusener to lead Rajshahi Kings to an honourable position in the sixth edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

“I don’t think it will be tough (to lead the side). There is Lance Klusener as our coach, who is immensely experienced in coaching and guiding any side. We have got some senior players in the side and obviously our team management who knows how to run a team. I know they will help me to make the things easier,” Mehidy said on Thursday.

The 21-year old cricketer said he will take input from all whoever is involved with the side.

“It’s not that I alone will take the decision. I will include all in taking the decision for the betterment of the side. There will be different opinion, which is natural. Coach might say one thing, what I may differ. At the same time team management may want something to do, what me and coach may not want. But at the end, we will take the decision which will come good for the team,” said Mehidy, who has already been tipped as future Bangladesh captain.

Asked how he will manage the senior players, Mehidy said they will actually be helpful for him in terms of sharing experience and giving advice.

“There is nothing like to manage them. I think senior players are very helpful and moreover they can share their experience. When it matters, I can take advice from them. It’s good for me. It’s not any pressure,” he opined.

He also played down the pressure of managing the overseas players , who in terms of stardom are much ahead of him.
