Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hasan Papon’s New Year resolution will be to uproot all the irregularities from the cricket arena. While in performance-wise Bangladesh national cricket team was almost up to the mark, umpiring issues came to the fore in wake of some bad umpiring by local umpires during Bangladesh’s T20 series against West Indies.

At least two legal deliveries of West Indies pacer Oshane Thomas was called ‘no-ball’ during the series deciding third T20, forcing Caribbean skipper Carlos Brathwaite to protest the decision vehemently. The incident also brought the bad umpiring in local cricket over the years in the light.

Nazmul said he will not spare any irregularities, insisting that if he is with cricket three years more, he will fix all the problems here including the umpiring issue.

“You can’t change the system in overnight. I know there is issue in domestic cricket and umpiring,” Nazmul said on Wednesday.

“When I came here, I got huge irregularities in BPL and I solved it. Now BPL is going smoothly. Then there was issue with Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League. I solved it and now you are seeing that there is no problem in Premier Cricket as it is going smoothly. Now it’s the time to concentrate on umpiring. If we can fix the problem of umpiring, everything will be okay.”

“We will fix the problem in first division, second division and third division cricket also. If I am with the cricket for the next three years, I will uproot all irregularities. I will not spare any irregularities.”

“You know our country cricket is totally club based, so clubs have some power always. But if the board decides that umpiring should be honest and if I remain strong particularly for this arena and if I give the courage, everything will be okay. Besides there are many allegations, which are not easy to uproot in a day. There is improvement and step by step we will go down to uproot all irregularities. We will fix the problem in first division, second division and third division cricket also. If I am with the cricket for the next three years, I will uproot all irregularities. I will not spare any irregularities.”

“I want to sit with the umpires and I want to give them the message that I want to see honest umpiring. When anyone want to uproot irregularities, he starts his work from the lower phase but in my I case I started working from bigger phase. I think If I fix the problem in upper level, the lower level will get the message.”

There is speculation that Nazmul can take oath as a Minister. Though he didn’t reveal it quite straightway but there was enough indication as he said he needs to give his people more time this time as they are expecting a lot from him.

“Cricket is my passion and I enjoy it. At the same time people of my constituency wants me more with them. They expect more from me and if you want to do something for your people, you can do it even without the portfolio but people think that if I become minister I can do more for him. Whatever it is, this time I have to give more time in our constituency,” Nazmul concluded.
