Bangladesh one-day international skipper Mashrafee bin Murtaza has been elected unofficially in Narail -2 constituency.
Mashrafee, who contested the election for the first time in his life from the ruling Awami League, bagged the seat as he managed to earn 2, 71,210 votes against his nearest rival Fariduzzaman from BNP, who could accumulate only 7, 883 votes to win the contest by 2, 63,000 votes.
Mashrafee was leading the host of players and sports organisers, who were contesting from different political parties in the 11th parliamentary elections that took place across the country on Saturday.

Through this win, Mashrafee, would become the first ever Member of Parliament while still continuing as a player.
The 35-year old cricketer would run from Narail-2 constituency, comprising his home town Narail and neighbouring Lohagora upazila, an area which already drew widespread media attention due to his participation.
All the three big political parties – Awami League, Bangladesh Nationalist Party and Jatiya Party – of the country gave nominations to several sports personalities, some of whom were also members in the outgoing parliament.
Former Bangladesh cricket skipper Naimur Rahman will be contesting from Manikganj-1 seat for the consecutive time for ruling party Awami League.
At least three Bangladesh Cricket Board current and former presidents – Nazmul Hasan, AHM Mostofa Kamal and Saber Hossain Chowdhury– will take part in the national election from Kishoreganj-6, Cumilla-10 and Dhaka-9 respectively.
All of three are current MPs and will run from the ruling party, AL.
