Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan insisted that Mahmudullah Riyad should continue the approach with which he played in the second T20 match against West Indies.

Mahmudullah struck 21 ball-43 not out, laced with seven boundaries and more importantly added an undefeated 91 off 42 with Shakib for the fifth wicket stand to help Bangladesh rack up a hefty 211 for four.

Shakib said Mahmudullah’s blitz took off the pressure on him and help him play his shots with free mind.

Having said that Shakib thought Mahmudullah should continue this approach in all format of cricket if he wants to successful and consistent, a thing for which he was often blamed despite being tagged as one of the members of Big Five.

“When he is in positive mind of frame, he does really well. Sometimes he tries to build the innings (I may wrong also) but I think that is wrong path for him,” said Shakib.

“Aggressive brand of cricket suits him in this format even in ODI. If you look at his Cardiff innings, he didn’t take much time to settle, he unleashed attack right from the start. I think this approach is good for him in short format of the cricket,” Shakib explained.

The Test and T20 Captain of Bangladesh also insisted Mahmudullah to show this kind of approach in longer version format also.

“Even in Test cricket, his gets his movement right when he starts attacking right from the onset. Normally in that case, he can prolong his innings. So I think it’s his right approach.”
