Shakib fined for dissent

Shakib Al Hasan

|| Desk Report ||
Bangladesh T20I captain Shakib Al Hasan has been fined 15 percent of his match fee for breaching Level 1 of the ICC code of conduct during the first T20I against West Indies, in Sylhet. In addition to the fine, a demerit point has been added to Shakib’s disciplinary record.
The 31-year-old was found to have violated Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an international match”.

The incident took place in the 14th over of Bangladesh’s innings when the umpire did not call a wide and the all-rounder showed dissent by first shouting at the umpire and then getting involved in a prolonged discussion.
The charge was levelled by on-field umpires Saikat Sharfuddoula and Tanvir Ahmed, third umpire Masudur Rahman and fourth umpire Gazi Sohel. No formal hearing was required, as Shakib pleaded guilty to the charge and accepted the sanction proposed by Jeff Crowe of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Umpires.
This demerit point takes Shakib's tally to two as he had been hit with one demerit point for an offence during a T20I against Sri Lanka in March this year.
A Level 1 breach attracts a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50 percent of a player’s match fee and one or two demerit points.
