Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe bin Mortaza said on Friday that they were not aware that there are six fielders in the onside that eventually turned out to be quite an issue after West Indian 12-th man Carlos Braithwaite raised it to the umpire after the dismissal of Rovman Powell.
According to ICC Men's ODI playing conditions in the clause 28.4 Limitation of on side fielders while it was stated in 28.4.1 at the instant of delivery, there may not be more than 5 fielders on the leg side.
It is further stated in 28.4.2 that at the instant of the bowler’s delivery there shall not be more than two fielders, other than the wicket-keeper behind the popping crease on the on side. A fielder will be considered to be behind the popping crease unless the whole of his person whether grounded or in the air is in front of this line. It is further stated clause 28.4.3 in the event of infringement of this clause by any fielder, the striker’s end umpire shall call and signal No.

“We all know that 6-3 is a no-ball. But we were only focused on getting them out and ended up having six fielders on the on-side but since the umpire had made his call, he had to be given out,” Mashrafe told reporter in the press conference.
The event took place when Mehedy Hasan removed Rovman Powell that created quite a stir after it was raised by Carlos Braithwaite when he entered the field to provide water to Shai Hope.
Rovman Powell said that he was disappointed that the umpire did not take notice of the incident that according to him was violation of law.
“It was a situation where Bangladesh had six persons on the leg side, and generally six persons on the leg side is considered a no-ball. It’s a bit disappointing to see about six or seven balls bowled with six players on the leg side and the umpire didn’t pick that up. It is human mistake, so sometimes you have to just give and take,” said Windies skipper Rovman Powell.
“Yeah, obviously [it is disappointing], you don’t want to lose a wicket in that fashion. Maybe that’s one of the major reasons why Carlos came on the field. To be honest I didn’t spot it. None of us, me nor Shai Hope, spotted it. We were concentrating on rebuilding, getting a partnership going and that just happened,” he added.
