With just 16 runs in the three-match ODI series against Bangladesh, West Indies skipper Rovman Powell was the biggest disappointment as he was expected to lead the side from the front.

Despite having an average outing in the ODI series against India, with only 61 runs in five innings, West Indies kept faith on him and gave him the captaincy responsibility after Jason Holder withdrew him from the series against Bangladesh due to his shoulder injury.

But he failed to shine in—a one of the reasons of West Indies’ 2-1 drubbing to Bangladesh in ODI series, following their 2-0 whitewash in the Test series.

“I am very, very disappointed,” Rovman Powell said. “I haven’t got any runs in this series. It’s hard for me personally, it’s something that I have to work on over the festive season, over the Christmas break.”

Powell also said that their plan to expose the Bangladesh’s tail didn’t work.

“The West Indies bowling unit, if you look at it, has done pretty well through the series. Every point we think if we got early wickets, we could’ve put the Bangladeshis under some bit of pressure. If you look at the series the Bangladesh lower order hasn’t batted much through the series. We wanted to remove the top order and bring them into the game.”

“To be honest we didn’t expect the wicket to play this good. It was a good wicket, it was a good fifty-over wicket. We expected maybe a little bit more spin but we didn’t get much.”

But Powell is hopeful to turn the things around before the World Cup.

“From this period to the World Cup we just have to keep believing and go back to the brand of cricket that West Indies want to play,” he added.

“Go in the nets and train and come up with strategic plans on how to win games. How to be competitive and we have enough good players to be honest. We have enough personnel in the West Indies that can turn around West Indies cricket. The players are entrusted in doing that and maybe sometimes they are too anxious to play and they make mistakes. It’s just for the board to continue to support the players selected and I am sure at the World Cup West Indies can be very competitive.”
