Dropping Thomas was a big mistake: Powell

West Indies captain Rovman Powell admitted they misread the wicket in the series-deciding third game against Bangladesh and paid the price with a crushing eight-wicket defeat to the hosts to loss the series by 2-1.
Powell said that they expected some more spin from the wicket of the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, which made its ODI debut with the third and final ODI of the series between Bangladesh and West Indies.

To bolster the spin attack, Powell said, they axed fiery fast bowler Oshane Thomas from the squad, which was a big mistake from their part.
“We have (misread the wicket),” a contrite Powell said after their aspiration to win their first bilateral ODI series in four years ended disappointingly.
“If we hadn’t misread the wicket we wouldn’t have dropped Oshane Thomas. He is our fastest bowler and I think we needed him on that wicket. It’s just one of those things, we thought the wicket will spin a little bit more and it didn’t spin.”
The large amount of dew made the task difficult for the spinners as they were simply unable to grip the ball properly, for which Powell rued vehemently.
“We honestly thought the conditions would have spun a little bit more,” Powell said. “We didn’t know about so much dew at this ground; it’s even more dew than what was in Dhaka. We are just reading conditions wrong and that is just a part of human nature.”
