Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe bin Mortaza said on Friday that they are confident of doing well due to their consistency after beating the Windies in the three-match ODI series at Sylhet on Friday.
Bangladesh defeated the visitors by eight wickets to clinch the series after the series was leveled when the host earn a four wicket loss after winning the opening game by five wickets.
“Winning eight out of 12 ODI series makes it clear that we have progressed, and we are playing with confidence. We have the New Zealand series coming up. It is an important series for us since we lost to them last year. I think we have a more balanced side, and we hope to do well there,” Mashrafe told reporters after the series.
“Combination is important for a team. Not that we always get it right but execution is more important. The bowlers executed the plan 100 per cent today. Winning the toss was vital too but the bowlers did the best work for the batsmen.
“It wasn’t anything new for the team since we had won the previous ODI series too.”
Mashrafe said that he is happy that Soumya Sarkar contributed with the bat after being promoted up in the order while he was happy that Saifuddin, who was picked ahead of Rubel Hossain, responded on the occasion.
Soumya scored a brilliant 81-ball 80 with five fours and five sixes while Saifuddin picked 1 for 38 in his nine overs to repay the faith bestowed upon him by the selectors.
“Soumya is ideal for No 3, and today he delivered. Rubel was also our best bowler in the last game but he didn’t play today. Saifuddin did well in his place. It is all about execution, holding on to your nerve,’’ said Mashrafe.
