Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza indicated that he is well aware that his departure from international cricket is not far away. The fast bowler had earlier hinted at retirement from international cricket after the ICC World Cup next year though he later confirmed that he would review the situation after the global tournament.
Taking that into consideration probably it was the last match of Bangladesh’s golden generation at the home of cricket in Mirpur. It was an occasion the quintet would have liked to cherish being together in their 100th international match.
Shai Hope spoiled the party with a brilliant undefeated hundred that helped West Indies earn a four-wicket win at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Tuesday.

The fabulous five – Mashrafe Mortaza, Tamim Iqbal, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah – made their 100 international appearance together on Tuesday (December 11) but all their experience went in vain as Hope played an innings of his lifetime to bringthe visitors back in three-match ODI series after going down in the opener.
The end of the road for the golden generation took the center stage considering Mashrafe joined politics recently and hinted to retire after the ICC World Cup as there is no more ODIs in the SBNS before the global tournament, the lone format where Mashrafe has been playing past after quitting T20Is in 2017 and not being considered for Test cricket since picking an injury against West indies in 2009.
“It’s been a long time since I quit T20Is. I will continue playing ODIs for some time. It is difficult to say if this was [my] last match [in Dhaka],” said Mashrafe.
“I don’t pre-decide things and depend on my instant gut feeling instead,” he said.
Mashrafe added that it would have been good if they had earned a win on this occasion of playing 100th international match together.
‘’It would be good to win [the 100th match of the quintet] for sure. Especially, we would have won the series then. We could have been on the winning side, if we had carried without committing those mistakes.”
