While the Bangladeshi players, especially the junior players shy away from the foreign coaches because of the language barrier, which often leads a problem in proper interaction and makes an adverse impact on their performance, they are relaxed in Sunil Joshi’s case.
Joshi’s language, Hindi, has the close proximity with Bangla and that actually makes a comfortable environment for the young players, who generally are not fluent in English. The spin-bowling coach of Bangladesh termed this arena as one of the most important aspects in developing a friendly relation with the players.
“I think the players are very very friendly and I love them,” Joshi said on Monday. “And we have a very good relationship because the language barrier is Hindi. So we are very comfortable in Hindi. So they are comfortable, I’m comfortable. If players are happy, I am happy.”

Because of the language proximity, the interaction is easier which helped the spin coach to understand and assess the players in better way.
Bangladesh spinners got the pitch to their likings at home, a fact that was the big reason behind their huge success. But it’s true that someone still needs to hone his skill to thrive even on a helpful pitch. The spinners in fact flourished under the guidance of Joshi as was evidenced in the stat.
“I think it’s important you know me being a coach. I’m wearing a coaching cap now but I am a player as well. So I always think as a player what a spinner needs for his mindset. Be it skill, it his mindset or performing consistently at international cricket,” he said.
“See, best example I would give you, we’ve seen Taijul, Taijul plays only one format. He has been very successful. Because he focuses, he puts in that extra effort in practice and in the match as well and we have seen Miraz[Mehidy Hasan]. Miraz, I would say probably from last two years he has been very very consistent and we have seen Nayeem as well. And of course Shakib, you know, the master is there.”
Joshi said the main challenge for Bangladesh to do better in the foreign condition, an arena in which he said he is trying to make them competent.
“We don’t have many challenges (at home). The challenge comes only when we go outside. Probably I would look at changing the mindset when we go away from home, adapting to the condition and adapting to those batsmen, it’s a challenge. That I’m trying to share with the players.”
