Despite tasting a morale-shattering five-wicket defeat to Bangladesh in the three-match series opener, West Indies refused to give up as they vow to fight their way back in the series in the second ODI, beginning on Tuesday.

The manner in which Bangladesh won the first match raised a hope that the hosts could dominate the series like they did in Test series. But West Indies off-spinner and a handy batsman lower down the order, Roston Chase said his side is not ready to give up the hopes so early.

“I think we go back to the drawing board, we look at our plans and we will look at where we fell down in this match and improve on that,” he said, adding that “I will never say that the series is over – we are gonna come back strong. We know the guys will be up for the challenge, so we are looking forward to the next game.”

Chase admitted that their 195 for nine was a below par score even in the sluggish wicket but believed West Indies could sneak their chance into the game had Liton Das not dismissed in a delivery that proved to be a no ball.

“Well, we felt it was a below-par score. The guys had a discussion, we felt that once we got a good start and got some early wickets we would have been in with a shout,” he said.

“We started well but I thought that the Liton Das wicket off the no-ball really hurt us. He scored 40-odd and those were some really crucial runs. He is a guy who scores quickly, so if you don’t out him early he’s a key player for them as well.”
