The ODI series-opener between Bangladesh and West Indies will mark Mashrafe Mortaza’s 200th ODI appearance, something the fast bowler is happy about, but he thinks that winning the match is more important than any personal achievements.

“Thank you for reminding me that (200th ODI for mash),” said Mashrafe, who will be the first Bangladeshi to reach the milestone. “I said it before that it does not touch me that much. Winning the first match of the series is more important to me instead of these things. But it feels well that I am going to play 200th one-day for Bangladesh. People will remember me in future saying that you have played 200 one-dayers for Bangladesh. That will feel better.”

“But to me there is nothing important than the first match of the series and we have to win the game,’’ he added.

Mashrafe is not ready to think that they should consider this series as a preparation for the World Cup.

“I think what we are expecting at the moment it is not possible to get from our wickets. It is my personal opinion. Actually, it is impossible for our soil. It is not possible to compare Dhaka’s wicket with the wickets in England or New Zealand,” said Mashrafe.

“We may have some similarities in Chittagong or Sylhet, but not here. We need to focus on how we can win, and this is the most important thing. I think we can get a better preparation for the world cup for the New Zealand series. The wicket of the World Cup will be closer to the wickets of New Zealand.

“What we can get positive from here is winning the series. That will make us confident in the next series in New Zealand, though, it does not mean that we will lose in New Zeland if we lose here in the upcoming series. We cannot get an ideal preparation for the World Cup here,” he concluded.
