Mahedi shines on uneventful day

Mahedi Hasan dominated a 54-run tenth-wicket partnership to help Prime Bank South Zone dart past 300 runs in the first innings of their third-round clash in the Bangladesh Cricket League.
South Zone, who finished the first day at 280/9, posted a total of 329 runs against BCB North Zone on day-two.
After Tushar Imran and Raqibul Hasan’s fifties that salvaged the pride of the defending champions on the first day, Mahedi, too, belted a half-century and remained unbeaten on 63 while the tailenders failed to pose any challenge to the opponents.
North Zone spinner Sunzamul Islam did not miss his chance to bag a fifer as took South Zone’s only remaining wicket after finishing the previous day with four wickets to his name.
Mahedi translated his batting performance into the bowling innings as well, as South Zone inflicted an early shake in North Zone’s batting lineup.
After Delwar Hossain earned South Zone a breakthrough by dismissing Rishad Hossain for a duck, Mahedi removed Farhad Hossain for four runs, as North Zone were left reeling at 10/2.
The batting side, however, restored the innings, with Naeem Islam and Junaid Siddique sharing an unbeaten 126-run stand.
Junaid was not out on 70 and Naeem remained unbeaten on 62 when the stumps were drawn on the second day. The two batsmen will need to add some pace to their innings when they resume the third day’s play, as North Zone managed to score at a run rate of 1.91 in the 71 over that they played.
