The ball-tampering saga left a mark in the lives of the three players that got punished for it and former captain Steve Smith was one of them. The Australian not only lost his captaincy but is now serving a yearlong ban.

And now, he has revealed that he cried about incident for four days. Smith was visiting Sydney boy’s school to promote a men’s mental health charity and stated that his mental state during the ordeal wasn’t good.

"To be honest, I probably spent four days in tears," he told the students, according to the Seven Network. "I was really struggling mentally. It certainly was the toughest thing that I've had to do."

Speaking of his ban, Smith hoped that would get back to his best after his ban is uplifted.

"Two months down and counting. Hopefully by the time I get back to the game I'm fresh and ready to perform at a really high level again."

Steve Smith broke down in tears at the press conference he gave after he returned home from South Africa. While there was a lot of contempt for the way everything panned out, Smith’s emotional press conference earned him the support of many people in the cricketing fraternity.

Smith has another 10 months left in his ban but will return to cricket in the upcoming Global T20 Canada League, where fellow disgraced Australian David Warner will also feature.
