Soumya Sarkar reveals that critics’ words hurt him

Bangladesh opening batsman Soumya Sarkar has revealed that critics get to his head with their words. The Tiger hasn’t been in great form of late and struggled to score runs in the Nidahas trophy.
Nevertheless, he has still found a place in the squad for the Afghanistan T20I series and is hoping to play well and get out of his current rut via hard work.
‘Everyone wants to do well but it is not possible to do well every day. I am going through a bad patch of form, so I am trying to get back in the groove. I have to get out of this by doing hard work.’
‘I have a target regarding the Afghanistan series, I am trying to reach that target, be it with my batting or bowling.’

He then revealed that Gary Kirsten spoke to him and asked him about his preferences when it came to batting.
‘I spoke with him [Gary Kirsten] about my own game. He asked me where I played and which position I like to bat.’
Finally, he stated that criticism always gets to him as it makes him believe that he is not playing well. He, however, added that he is trying to avert the bad feelings and focus more on improving himself.
‘There is always pressure. I have to play well now. I obviously feel bad listening to the critics. At that time, I feel like I really played bad. The more I hear [those things], the more I feel like that. I try to not listen to it and improve my game instead.’
Bangladesh will take on Afghanistan in a three-match T20I series starting from the 3rd of June and Sarkar will be hoping that he is among the runs in this one.
