Harbhajan Singh hits out at BCCI

Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has blasted the BCCI for refusing to play the Adelaide Test under floodlights later this year. The annual Adelaide Test was scheduled to be a day-night affair but India’s vehement refusal to play pink-ball cricket coerced Cricket Australia to make it a day match instead.
It was a move that didn’t go down well with many as Harbhajan Singh, being among the disgruntled ones, stated that playing under the floodlights is an interesting format and the players can only adjust to it if they play it more.
“I don’t know why they don’t want to play day-night Test matches. It’s an interesting format and we should try it. I am all for it. Tell me what’s the apprehension of playing with pink ball? If you play, [then only] you can adjust. It may not be as difficult as it seems,” the 37-year old was quoted by ESPNCricinfo.

‘Bhajji’ was bemused by the fact that despite having the pacers to trouble them and being accustomed to the challenges of playing in the difficult overcast conditions like England presents to its visitors, the BCCI have refused to play pink-ball cricket flat out.
“We have fast bowlers to trouble them. And what makes us think our batsmen can’t take up the challenge of facing Aussie pacers? It’s a challenge, and what’s the harm in taking up the challenge?,” he said.
“Don’t you accept the challenge of playing England in overcast conditions in their country? Isn’t that a challenge? If we could take up that challenge why not pink-ball cricket,” he further added.
Harbhajan Singh is not the only one who has criticized BCCI’s approach as Mark Waugh labeled India as selfish for their refrainment over playing pink-ball cricket.
