Bangladesh all-rounder and Test captain Shakib Al Hasan has withdrawn himself from the World XI squad to face West Indies at the Lord’s on the 31st May due to personal reasons. His replacement will be announced soon.

Meanwhile, Sandeep Lamichhane of Nepal has been included in the squad as the only representative from Nepal – something that is seen as an honour by the 17-year-old.

“I am privileged to have been chosen to be part of the ICC World XI against the Windies. It is an honour for the entire country and passionate followers of Nepal cricket, as well as an indicator that we are making our mark on the international game.

He will join the likes of Eoin Morgan, Tamim Iqbal, Shoaib Malik, Shahid Afridi and so on and is looking to share the dressing room with players he watched while growing up.

“Training, sharing the dressing room and playing with some of the trend-setters who we saw on television while growing up is something I look forward to. This is an opportunity for me to learn and improve, and I am committed to cashing in on this.

The match is set to take place at the Lord’s and the proceeds from it will be used to repair the stadiums in the Caribbean that were destroyed by the hurricane Irma. Accordingly, Lamichhane stated that playing at the Lord’s is a dream for any cricketer.

“What can I say about Lord’s, it’s the Home of Cricket, it’s a complete history of cricket and a dream venue for any cricketer. To play there in 2016 was a memorable occasion, which I look forward to reliving later this month. I hope I will continue to get opportunities in future which, in turn, will help me improve my skills as well as my country to strengthen its position on the world cricket map.”

Lamichhane has set the world alight with his presence. The Nepali youngster shot to stardom with some brilliant performances after being spotted by coach Pubudu Dassanayake in 2014.

The fact that he became the first Nepali player to play in the Indian Premier League is a testament to the caliber that he possesses. In his IPL debut, he took a wicket and gave away 25 runs in four overs against the Royal Challengers Bangalore to complete a wonderful spell.

The World XI squad so far for the one-off T20I: Tamim Iqbal, Eoin Morgan, Shoaib Malik, Dinesh Karthik, Hardik Pandya, Thisara Perera, Shahid Afridi, Rashid Khan, Mitchell McClenaghan, Sandeep Lamichhane
