Former Australia Test star Mark Waugh has criticized India for being selfish as they have refused to provide a helping hand to restore the glory of Test cricket.

With the current nosedive of Test cricket, new methods and plans are being implemented to curb the fall and make an attempt to save the longest version of the game. One of those strategies is to use day-night Tests to bring more people out to watch Test cricket.

According to Waugh, however, India’s refusal to play day-night Test in Adelaide is a sign of refrainment to help Test cricket.

"It's a little bit selfish from India's point of view because we need to revitalise Test cricket," he told Sky radio.

"Day-night Test cricket in some countries is going to be one of those ingredients that could transform Test cricket back to where it should be."

Mark Waugh, who was an essential figure in Steve Waugh’s Australia team, added that only Australia, England and India are the countries where Test cricket still lives – and that is a concern for him.  

"So it's really only Australia, India and England where Test cricket is alive and well," he said. For me that's a concern."

Furthermore, Waugh found India’s reluctance to play day-night Test inscrutable since he believes that they have all the ingredients to be successful in those conditions.  

"Their team is pretty well suited to day-night cricket, they've got a string of fast bowlers, so they don't just rely on the spinners and their batsman are technically very good as well," he said.

"So for the greater good of the game, I would have loved to have seen that as a day-night Test."
