Mark Waugh to step down as selector

Former Australia Test star Mark Waugh is set to step down as a selector of the Australian cricket team following the expiration of his contract before the summer of 2018-19.
In 2014, the younger brother of former Australia captain, Steve Waugh, was appointed to the national selection panel as well as the selection chairman of the T20I side.
Waugh’s last tour as the T20 selection chairman will be when Australia travel to England and Zimbabwe in June and July. Australia are set to play a T20I and five ODI matches against England in June and then a two-game T20I series against Zimbabwe.
Waugh has been immersed in broadcasting duties of late. He is seen in Indian Premier League’s pundit panel for Star and has also been a commentator for the Big Bash League on Channel 10.

Recently, he has joined Fox Sports after they signed a deal with Cricket Australia to air Australian international matches for the next six years.
As a result, there are reports circling that Waugh won’t be able to carry out duties of a national selector as well as a full-time commentator with Fox – which is why he has chosen to not extend his contract with Cricket Australia, who will now have to find a replacement for the man who scored 8029 runs in 128 Test matches.
