Balance slightly tilted towards Australia after Day 1

It is just one of those days where you are not sure as to
which team had a better day of play in a Test game. Not one single player in the
English team played badly, but they weren’t good either—apart from Joe Root and
Dawid Malan.
Every English batsman got a start, but couldn’t carry on
with it and score something huge. Speaking about that, Joe Root seems to have
the uncanny ability to not score a century after making more than 50 runs.
The England captain made 83 from 141 balls to help steady
the ship of England, but perished when the onus was on him to make a mammoth
score.
Meanwhile, apart from Jonny Bairstow, every other English
player got more than 20 runs, but failed to capitalize on it. Dawid Malan is
currently not out on 55 from 160 balls and will look to once again anchor the
ship of England to safety.

Now for the other side of the coin.
Mitchell Starc made a comeback in this Test after missing out on the previous one due to injury and grabbed the
wicket of the dangerous Joe Root. Meanwhile, both Pat Cummins and Josh
Hazlewood took two wickets each. The two quick wickets before the day’s break
has really put the Aussies on the driving seat as they go to the dressing room
with more confidence.
England didn’t have an entirely terrible day either as 233
for 5 isn’t really a bad place to be. However, what happens in the first hour
of Day 2 will determine the outcome of the Test. Some quick wickets for
Australia could really disrupt the balance of the game and put it in favour of
the Kangaroos.
And that is what they will seek tomorrow as Mitchell Starc
and co. would be raring to have a go at the Poms. Meanwhile, Dawid Malan will
have to absorb the onslaught and carry on steering the ship to safety.
At this point, 4-0 looks very much on the cards.
England 233-5
Joe Root 83 (141) | Pat Cummins 2-44
Dawid Malan 55 (160)
