Sri Lanka name new captain for third Test

After the match referee of the second Test between West Indies and Sri Lanka, Javagal Srinath, handed Dinesh Chandimal with a ban for the third Test and also two suspension points, he appealed against the charges but to no avail.
ICC’s judicial commissioner Michael Beloff dismissed the appeal and also retained the punishment that was inflicted upon the captain by the former Indian pacer. As a result, he misses the next Test as Suranga Lakmal has been appointed as the man to lead them in the final Test.
Chandimal was caught on tape while tampering with the ball with his sweet-imbed saliva. He was taking sweets from his pocket and putting them in his mouth before using the saliva generated from it on the ball.

As a result, the umpires not only had to change the ball but also award West Indies with five runs on day two. As a sign of protest, the Sri Lankan cricket team refused to take the field in day three, which subsequently caused a delay of two hours.
Manager Asanka Gurusinha and coach Chandika Hathurusingha, along with captain Dinesh Chandimal, were charged with a level 3 offense for this revolting act that they deemed as “conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game.”
