The controversy just rolls on. The ICC have announced that Sri Lanka captain Dinesh Chandimal has been charged for breaching ICC Code of Conduct by tampering with the condition of the ball on the second day of the Test against West Indies.

Earlier, the Sri Lankan players refused to start day three following the umpires awarding West Indies with five extra runs and also changing the ball during day 2.

“Sri Lanka captain Dinesh Chandimal has been charged for breaching Level 2.2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct,” the ICC tweeted.

This is the second time in the last three months that ICC have had to charge a player for ball-tampering, with Cameron Bancroft facing ICC’s sanction for tampering with the ball against South Africa in March.

Meanwhile, the Sri Lankan board wrote a statement on their website to defend their players while also revealing that it was their request which made the players take on the field again.

The Sri Lankan board sent out a statement defending its players: "SLC advised the team to take the field to ensure the continuity of the match and wish to commend the decision taken by the team to continue with the game 'under protest' to ensure the upholding of the spirit of the game."

"The team management has informed us that Sri Lankan players have not engaged in any wrongdoing," a board release said. "SLC shall take all necessary steps to defend any player, in the event any unwarranted allegation is brought against a member of the team."

Sri Lanka finished day 3 by batting at 34-1 and trailing West Indies by only 13 runs. With two more days to go and with two innings already concluded, it seems as though this match will have a result.
