Bangladesh’s probable squad for West Indies Test

promotional_ad

Bangladesh may include two uncapped pacers for their Test series against West Indies in the form of Abu Jayed and Yeasin Arafat, if a report from Cricbuzz is to be believed. Meanwhile, Shakib Al Hasan is also set to make a comeback to Test cricket after almost a year.

The Test captain hasn’t played in the format ever since being allowed to go on a short break from the longest format back in September 2017. Subsequently, he missed the South Africa series and was then injured while playing an ODI match against Sri Lanka in a tri-series involving Zimbabwe as well.

As a result, Shakib also missed the Test series against Sri Lanka and will finally be able to captain Bangladesh in Tests for the first time since his reappointment as captain.

While the inclusion of Abu Jayed was expected – given that Bangladesh need good and in-form pacers in West Indies, especially with the absence of Mustafizur Rahman, and that he has already tasted international cricket with three T20Is under his belt – the selection of youngster Yeasin Arafat comes as a surprise.

The pacer is a 19-year-old sensation that pushed himself to limelight after taking eight wickets in a List A game in the Dhaka Premier League this year. It was not against any common team but eventual champions Abahani, who boasted international stars like Anamul Haque Bijoy, Nasir Hossain, Mohammad Mithun and Mashrafe Mortaza.

He has been tipped for a big future but his selection might have just been rushed due to the injury of fellow pacer Mustafizur.

Wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan could also be called up while the likes of Sabbir Rahman, Abdur Razzak and Mossadek Hossain are set to miss out.

Probable squad: Shakib Al Hasan (c), Mahmudullah, Tamim Iqbal, Liton Das, Mushfiqur Rahim, Imrul Kayes, Mominul Haque, Nurul Hasan, Taijul Islam, Rubel Hossain, Mehedi Hasan Miraz, Kamrul Islam Rabbi, Abu Jayed, Yeasin Arafat.
