The coaches for the upcoming Global T20 Canada League have been announced with star names like Tom Moody and Waqar Younis being hired by the teams in the competition.

In total, five teams have announced their five coaches with legendary former Pakistan pacer Waqar Younis taking over Winnipeg Eagles, and Sunrisers Hyderabad boss Tom Moody being hired by Montreal Tigers.

Meanwhile, former West Indies coach and current Afghanistan coach will mentor Toronto Nationals, while former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Akram – who has coaching experience in the Pakistan Super League – has taken over the reins at Edmonton Royals with Donovan Miller being appointed as the head coach of Vancouver Knights.

Newly-appointed Winnipeg Eagles coach Waqar Younis, meanwhile, has stated his joy at being able to manage a team in the Canada T20 league.

“I look forward to this experience,” Younis said. I have fond memories of playing in Toronto in the 1990s. I still remember the kind of excitement it created at that time and this time it should be no different.

“Global T20 has announced some magnificent names as marquee players.”

The coaches will take part in the draft that features 10 marquee players in the form of Chris Gayle (West Indies), Andre Russell (West Indies), Shahid Afridi (Pakistan), Daren Sammy (West Indies), Lasith Malinga (Sri Lanka), Steve Smith (Australia), Sunil Narine (West Indies), Chris Lynn (Australia), David Miller (South Africa), Dwayne Bravo (West Indies).

Each team will be allotted two marquee players. The draft contains a talent pool of 1500 players and each team can take 14 from them – excluding the marquee players – while four spots are reserved for Canadian players, one of which is allocated for a Canadian U23 player.
