BCB president announces new plans for regional cricket
BCB president Nazmul Hasan Papon has revealed that the board is currently working on creating regional cricket committees in order strengthen the cricketing roots of the nation.
Speaking at an Iftar party organized by the board at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel, Nazmul Hasan opened up about his plans to expand cricket to all parts of the country, with the first step being the creation and organisation of regional boards.
He added that a constitution has been drawn up and sent to the legal team, after which it will be placed in the AGM before being accepted.
‘We have made a constitution regarding regional cricket. We have given the constitution to the board today and we have unanimously accepted it. Now, we will send this [constitution] for legal advice and once it comes back to us, we will place it in the AGM [Annual General Meeting] and pass it.’
The BCB have chosen four states in their plans of expansion, namely Chittagong, Rangpur, Sylhet and Rajshahi. If they find success with it, they could further expand in more regions, according to Nazmul Hasan.
‘We are creating regional working committees, starting from Chittagong, Rangpur, Sylhet and Rajshahi, that will be overlooked by the directors of the board for that specific region.
‘The committees will consist of the directors along with the cricket counselors from the specific region. The two things that they will start instantly are working with the regional cricket academies to ensure their basic needs are delivered and create regional cricket leagues.’
He further added that based on the results of the aforementioned ventures with the four states, the BCB could further expand the idea and disperse even more.
