Officials organizing the Global T20 Canada league have rubbished reports claiming that the league is in jeopardy. Earlier, Fairfax Media reported that the players hadn’t received their contracts nor flight tickets for the tournament.

The director of the tournament, Jason Harper, has, however, hit back at those claims by stating that majority of the players have been contracted and that their dispersed origins make it hard for things to get done smoothly.

"[There were rumours] contracts were not out and flights weren't booked," Harper said.

"Well, 91 of 96 players have been contracted ... it's going ahead.

"You're dealing with players from multiple countries. It's not as straightforward as you think."

He further added that an event like this takes a lot of time to execute but they are doing it in eight weeks. He also slammed the reports as an attempt to belittle the tournament.

"A world-class sporting event like this probably takes six to eight months to pull off. We're trying to pull it together in eight weeks," Harper said.

"When articles come out like that, it's deflating to our team because we are really putting in a lot of work."

The Global T20 Canada League has some star names in it with the likes of Chris Gayle, Steve Smith, David Warner, Sunil Narine and the likes featuring in it.
