Chittagong Vikings’ South African pace bowler Robbie Frylinck was elated to kick-start their BPL campaign with winning note as his side overcame defending champions Rangpur Riders by three wickets in a low-scoring affair.
Frylinck claimed four for 14 to help Chittagong skittle Rangpur out for paltry 98 in 20 overs. While it seemed an easy chase regardless of the nature of the wicket, Chittagong had to play 19.1 overs to chase it down, with Frylinck ensuring the victory with a boundary to the extra cover fence.
Frylinck however said it doesn’t matter how many overs they played to get to the victory mark, given there is no bonus point system in the tournament.
“There’s no bonus point in this competition so it doesn’t matter when you win it, as long as you win it,” Frylinck said after the match on Saturday at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
“I didn’t think it was going to be a cakewalk. The wicket got tougher and if you lose a few wickets early, it is tough. I didn’t think it would take that long but we lost wickets which made it longer.”
It appeared Frylinck’s 12 not out was more important than his four for 14, considering the match scenario. Frylinck said his expertise back in home to face such crunch situation always helped him lot.
“I paced it as I would have done it. I am in these situations all the time back home and wherever I play. I know if we can take it in the last over, I can finish the game. I was comfortable and Sunzamul made it easier with a few hits.”
He pondered him lucky to get all those four wickets.
“It is never easy. I was just fortunate to land the ball in the right place and it did a bit. Our bowling unit bowled really nicely. I was fortunate to get the wickets. Anyone could have got the man-of-the-match,” he said.
“It seamed around a bit with the new ball. Rahi started off with a great over. Then later on, the spinners bowled really nicely as well. The ball gripped. It got a bit slower when we batted so it was quite tough to score freely. We just needed a good partnership somewhere.”
Frylinck credited all of his colleagues for their good job to restrict Rangpur below 100.
“I don’t think it was a 99 wicket, neither was it a 140 wicket. I think 120-125 would have been a good score. I think they may have gone a bit hard up front. If Ravi had someone consolidated with him, they could have got 125. I think our bowlers did well to restrict them to 99 and we knocked it off.”
