Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu on Wednesday said that they will start the players’ selection process for the next ICC Men’s World T20 from the 2019 Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
The seventh edition of the World T20 will be hosted by Australia in October-November, 2020.
The top eight teams would get direct access to the tournament based on rankings as on December 31, 2018. Bangladesh placed at No. 10 in ICC’s latest T20I rankings. So, according to the qualification criteria, set for the tournament, Australia-the hosts along with the other nine top-ranked teams have ensured direct qualification.
Pakistan are on pole position with the charts along with India, England, Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, the West Indies and Afghanistan, who all will launch their campaign directly in the Super 12s.
Bangladesh have to play in the eight-team group stage, which will be commenced from October 18.

“We’ve so many series in 2019 that are important for us. We’ll start the New Year with New Zealand tour which will be opened with three-Test series. In that sense, the year will be very challenging for us,” Mihajul said on Wednesday.
“As we at home started with BPL, it’s a shorter version of cricket. So, our radar will be on the players. As we have World Cup ahead, I think, every step of cricketers and their performance will be considered. We want that the New Year will be begun in solid manner,” he added.
“The performance of the players will be observed because we have World T20 in 2020. So, our planning will be started for the extravaganza event from BPL. We’ll give a good look at this BPL,” he said, adding that he believes that the way players are matured enough and learnt to take their responsibility, they will do better if they are given the charge.
Even though it’s challenging for them, Minhajul believed that they will play in World Cup by surpassing the Qualifying round of the World Cup.
“It’s, of course, challenging for us,” the chief selector said.
“But it’s good from one side that we can organize and formulate our plan from the beginning and before taking on the big guns,” he remarked.
Minhajul, also a former captain said that they will set a stiff monitoring system so that the players could play the BPL as injury-free since the World Cup is knocking at the door.
“Every team has a set-up including physio and trainer. I think, the way they work for the national team they work in that style. They will monitor how much pressure a player can take and how much fitness for them to play in successive games. In that sense, we’ve a look on the players so that they don’t fall to injury because we have world cup ahead,” he noted.
“Along with that, we have to fly within 24 hours to play another series after the completion of BPL. I think, the players will be saved from injury if we could do monitor them properly,” he continued.
“ So many young players will be playing BPL for the first time. In that sense, we will see them and their performance. As we have one and half-a-year in hand for the World Twenty20, we will see the players how much ability they have for the international cricket to sustain.”
