Sixers register first win by thwarting Thunder

Yesterday the Melbourne Stars opened their account by winning against Melbourne Renegades, and today Sydney Sixers took their first two points in this season of the Big Bash League by defeating their crosstown rivals—Sydney Thunder.

Chris Green was declared the Man of the Match after today’s game. His team lost the match by 8 wickets.

Winning the toss Sixers decided to bowl first. They finished the first innings by allowing Thunder to score 156 runs for 6 wickets.

Among the batsmen of Sydney Thunder, Chris Green played the highest individual innings of 49 runs. James Vince also made 34 runs. Moises Henriques took a brace while Brathwait, Lyon and Abbott picked a wicket each for Sixers.

Sydney Sixers needed 2 runs off the last delivery while chasing and Henriques picked up those runs to clinch his team’s first ever victory in this season. Henriques remained not out on 18 runs and Daniel Hughes also remained unbeaten on 66 runs.

Joe Denly and Nic Maddinson made 43 runs and 28 runs, respectively. Fawad Ahmed and Arjun Nair got one wicket apiece for Thunder as Sixers finished the chase successfully by scoring 157/2 in 20 overs.

Sydney Sixers will take on Melbourne Stars in their next match on 16th January. Sydney Thunder will also face the Stars on 20th January in their next game in the league.
