Former Pakistan national team coach, Waqar Younis, has advised pacer Taskin Ahmed to stick to his natural instincts in order to get his form back. The pacer had been struggling for form over the year and was completely toyed around in South Africa.

However, Bangladesh Premier League brought some personal solace to him as he was Chittagong Vikings’ highest wicket-taker with 13 wickets from 11 games, but his economy was on the extreme end of 9 runs-per-over.

After the game against Sylhet Sixers, he approached their mentor, Waqar Younis for some tips and the former pacer obliged.

Waqar queried: “I have been following you since 2015 and you have been playing well for the last two years, but your performances this year haven’t been up to the mark. What happened?”

The pacer had only one answer, “When I wasn’t bowling well in South Africa, I changed my grip,” to which Waqar quipped, “you don’t have to change much, just bowl the way that made you Taskin Ahmed: at a fiery pace of 145 kilometers-per-hour – keep practicing that and you will be fine.”

Taskin Ahmed broke into the scene with Chittagong in the second season of Bangladesh Premier League.

He impressed fans and selectors alike with his fiery pace and directness and was called up to the national team in 2014 – just a year after making himself known in the biggest domestic competition in the country.

Since then, the trajectory had been steadily rising upward – until 2017, a year of disappointment for not only the pacer, but also of the team in general. However, if Taskin could implement the advice of Waqar Younis, he could become a force to be reckoned with in the future.
