“We don’t want to see this kind of bad teams in Lords anymore”; that was the headline of an English newspaper back in 2005. In 2005 a newly born baby in test cricket, Bangladesh made their first ever visit to England and the headline was for that baby as they couldn’t perform well. That time, Tigers didn’t know how to bat against swing; they didn’t know how to play in that type of conditions; and even they didn’t know how to dress properly in England. Is that so much funny? When a baby falls and falls again and then again to learn to walk, does it look funny? Do people mock that baby for falling again and again? Or they support them to learn? We are usually used to see elder people helping younger people to learn to walk properly in the hard phases of life but England may not know that. After the series in England the great man in English cricket, Geoffrey Boycott said, "My mum would have scored runs and taken wickets against the Bangladeshis. She’d have wanted to bat and bowl at both ends!!" You have to say, what a great support from England people for a younger side. England was right as they wanted competitive cricket and they didn’t want to finish a 5 days match in 3 days. They were literally bored to defeat a team so easily in just three days. In that time; The Newspapers, the Medias and all the people from England were literally looking at Bangladesh Cricket team with a funny face. You might be interested to know that one player from that time is still in our squad. Do you guess? He is none other than the test captain of Bangladesh Cricket Team, Mushfiqur Rahim. He was only 16 years of age in that time and after some quality performances in the practice match Mushfiq got the chance to play for Bangladesh in that series. Mushfiq is the only witness of those humiliations in 2005. The humiliations were not ended yet. Michael Vaughan was the captain of English side in that series. There is an interesting story about Vaughan in that series. Vaughan wanted to see the football match of his favorite team but that match timing clashed with the timing of 2nd test against Bangladesh. The football match was scheduled on the third day of the test so he wanted to finish the match against Bangladesh in 2 days. Questioning about Bangladesh’s test status was a habit of English legends and Boycott is the favorite in that. In 2010, when Bangladesh went to England for the 2nd time Boycott started his work again. But how well Tamim answered his criticism in that series! Scoring a hundred in lords, taking the match to 5th day and giving a quality fight, all were done in that series. Boycott was not happy even after that. England team used to Bangladesh losing a test match in 3 days and they continuously questioned about Bangladesh’s test squad. But there are such reactions from those legends after the Dhaka test where England lost to Bangladesh in 3 days. The collapse which England faced, Bangladesh didn’t face anything similar to that against them in any format and in anywhere. Bangladesh won’t mock England for that and they will always respect them like they did in the past. But those legends should realize their faults. When a nation was trying to build a test team, England should have supported them rather mocking them.
