BCB & Team Management: The Loopholes

BCB & Team Management: The Loopholes

Published Date: 29 Mar 2016 | Update : 29 Mar 2016
Last year after the world cup Bangladesh did manage to pull out a great a performance in the whole tournament, a year later in the T20 World cup they’ve failed to go closer to the success. Finishing off the qualifying round with some quality performances Bangladesh lost it shine and light in the super ten.   “Bangladesh is now an emerging team of Asia and soon they will accomplish everything.” This statement was given by the Australian great Matthew Hayden after the Asia Cup 2016 and now people are criticizing this team’s performance. Well, isn’t it obvious? The team management didn’t synchronize with the need of the team.   If we look in other teams, the boards don’t declare a team of 15 in the primary stage. They declare a team of 25 players so that if a player is injured or not available to play they can easily replace him with another option. In team Bangladesh’s case they declare a 15 man squad without having any extra options in hand.   We saw this in this world cup, when Taskin and Sunny were ruled out of the team for the ICC ban Saqlain Sajeeb who has almost no international experience came to the squad out of nowhere. On the other hand when Tamim was unable to play the match against Australia Mithun and Soumya opened up the innings for Bangladesh. The team management doesn’t have any extra openers available in their squad. What’s more surprising Mithun Ali who was consistent in not scoring runs both as opener and middle order batsman; continued to get a place in the team.   There are so many loop holes in the team management sector of Bangladesh team. They still don’t know where and when to use their potential player. Also they don’t have that much of idea of when and where to introduce the new players. If this culture keeps going on in the future the news is not so good for the Team Bangladesh.   On the other said of the table after this world cup Bangladesh is getting a long vacation from the international arena of cricket. Following the current FTP schedule Bangladesh will not have any international matches until August-September. This much of break from the international cricket will definitely hurt the performance of Bangladesh team.   Though BCB is trying to arrange some Bilateral series in April against Sri Lanka and against Zimbabwe in June but that schedule too is not yet confirmed. Bangladesh did a tremendous job last year in the arena of international cricket as they had many matches to play after the world cup, but this time around after a sad ending from the world T20 Bangladesh is not getting matches very soon.   Though BCB is trying to get some matches for Bangladesh but their role to get Taskin on the field again didn’t pay off very well. They couldn’t pull up any big shots while handling the matter of the fast bowler Taskin. This is a major failure for the BCB.   But all can hope for the bright days, but that too will come at the cost of a fortune. Bangladesh is going in a great flow if by any chance this flow gets hampered the performance of the team will fall dramatically. We’ve already seen what two major strikes in the world cup did to this balanced team.
